What a weekend! I really don't know where to begin, but I
can't thank the people involved in this race program enough
for everything they do. It's the combined efforts from everyone
that make our program successful and it simply would not happen
without the support we have. Also, a quick thanks to Jay,
James, Sparky, Scott & Chris for their help and hospitality
over the weekend. You guys really made a huge difference for
me this weekend.
Day 1
Notes on Practice
Weather conditions - Cool & damp
Tires front / rear - soft front - soft rear
Total laps - 4
Best time - NA
Concerns/problems - None as the track conditions didn't
really allow me to explore decent braking or turn in points
Notes: Bike seems to be working perfectly
Race 1 - Super Bike Race 1
Weather conditions - Dry & warm
Tires front / rear - soft front - medium rear
Total laps - 8
Best time - 1:10.65
Result - 1st
Concerns/problems - None
Notes: I got a decent start and went underneath everyone
going into turn one. From there I just put in as many consistent
laps as I could and took the win.
Race 2 - 600 Supersport
Weather conditions - Dry & warm
Tires front / rear - soft front - medium rear
Total laps - 10
Best time - 1:10.55
Result - 1st
Concerns/problems - None
Notes: I got another decent start in this one and
proceeded into turn one in third. By lap three I had taken
the lead and continued to push taking the win.
Race 3 - Super Bike Race 2
Weather conditions - Dry & warm
Tires front / rear - soft front - soft rear
Total laps - 12
Best time - 1:10.75
Result - 1st
Concerns/problems - The clutch is toast
Notes: I knew right from the start that the clutch
was going away. It was even beginning to slip when I shifted
so I had to change my strategy for this race. I held back
a little at the beginning saving as much of the bike as I
could in the event that I might need it at the end, although
I didn't know how much longer the clutch would even propel
me forward. In the end things shook out my way and I took
the win. As soon as I came in James & Jay started working
on replacing the clutch for the next day's events.
Day 2
Notes on Practice
Weather conditions - Cool & dry
Tires front / rear - soft front - soft rear
Total laps - 4
Best time - NA
Concerns/problems - None, the bike was working well
Race 1 - Super Bike Race 1
Weather conditions - Warm & dry
Tires front / rear - soft front - medium rear
Total laps - 8
Best time - 1:10.52
Result - 1st
Concerns/problems - None
Notes: The new clutch in the bike helped things tremendously.
It was now putting all the power to the rear wheel enabling
me to put in some consistent lap times to take the race win.
Race 2 - 600 Supersport
Weather conditions - Warm & dry
Tires front / rear - soft front - medium rear
Total laps - 10
Best time - 1:10.30 LAP
RECORD!
Result - 1st
Concerns/problems - None
Notes: This was by far the best race of the weekend.
Mark seemed determined to win this one and he rode very well.
Unfortunately for him, our package was a little better and
we were able to get by for the lead and the eventual win.
In the process, I managed to retake the official track record
which now stands at 1:10.30.
Race 3 - Super Bike Race 2
Weather conditions - Warm & dry
Tires front / rear - soft front - soft rear
Total laps - 12
Best time - 1:10.7
Result - 1st
Concerns/problems - none
Notes: This was another exciting race as Brent Luebkert
was riding his Graves built R1 and Allan Schmidt was riding
his GSXR1000 (which Al has nicknamed "Blitzkrieg").
I have to tell you watching Al ride his 1000 around this track
is well worth the price of admission. I'm convinced he's going
to paint a black stripe around the entire track as the rear
wheel on "Blitzkrieg" is always spinning. I got
a good start and made my way to the front by lap two, however,
I could hear the intake of Brent's R1 behind me so I set off
to do some consistent laps. I knew Brent was right on my tail
until lap six when it went from the intake "growl"
of his R1 to silence. I knew something must have happened.
My next lap around confirmed what I thought I had heard; Brent
had low sided (thankfully unhurt) exiting turn one. At this
point I had a gap on the second place rider and proceeded
to just bring it home for the win.
From here I should be in Portland next weekend, or I might
head down for some more SuperMoto fun in Canby.
Stay tuned.
